چکیده
C ouplers (or power divider/combiners) with outputs that differ in phase by 90 degrees are an important part of RF/microwave design. This tutorial provides an overview of various types of 90-degree combiners, using both lumped element and transmission line structures. Our intention is to introduce the subject to engineers who may be unfamiliar with these couplers, and perhaps offer some reminders to experienced engineers who only occasionally use them in their designs.

Impedance-Transforming Lumped Element Two-Branch 90 Couplers in Case of Type C
An impedance-transforming lumped-element (LE) two-branch 90 coupler is discussed in this paper. The LE coupler discussed here can be derived from a branch-line coupler consisting of one-quarter or three-quarters wavelength transmission-lines (that is, case of type C) and classified into five groups. Normally, the LE coupler needs 8 circuit elements. However, the existence of reduced LE couplers...

Directional couplers are passive devices which are used as power dividers and combiners in microwave, millimeter and terahertz systems. By the use of substrate integrated waveguides (SIW) for the design of such devices, the advantages of waveguide and printed circuit (PC) technologies are utilized simultaneously, such as low cost, small size, low transmission and radiation losses. In this paper...
متن کاملCompact Dual-band 90◦ Couplers with Cus- Tomizable Power Division Ratios Utilizing Scrlh Transmission Lines
Novel dual-band 90◦ couplers with arbitrary power division ratios using simplified composite right-/left-handed (SCRLH) transmission lines (TLs) are proposed. With a degree of freedom in the structural parameters, a SCRLH stub can easily be tailored to imitate a conventional 90◦ section at two arbitrary frequencies with different characteristic impedances, making the resulting couplers with cus...
متن کاملDevelopment of Forward-wave Directional Couplers Loaded by Periodic Shunt Shorted Stubs
In this paper a new procedure for designing forward-wave directional couplers using periodic shunt short circuited stubs is proposed. A new type of cell using these stubs, which enlarge the phase difference between even- and odd modes of a uniform microstrip coupled line is introduced. Using the equivalent circuit model for even- and odd-modes of the proposed cell, the elements of the ABCD tra...

Introduction: With the increasing variety of commercial wireless applications, there is now a requirement to incorporate several transceivers into a single hardware device [1]. To achieve high integration and minimise costs, it is an advantage to design transceivers that can be reconfigured for different frequency bands or share common blocks, rather than implementing the transceivers separatel...
